History

Established in March 1977 with a group of 14 professional riders, all over 40 years of age.

Founding members:  R Backshall, R Brock, J Cleggett, M Conlon, J Devisser, D Holly, L lawson, B L'Greeen, R Pitt, J Sharkey, I Steele, B Tucker, D Whitehorn and R Whitehorn.

The club first operated as the SA Veteran Cycling Association, with their first race held in the Wasleys/Mallala area.  Initially, membership was only available to professional cyclists, and amateur cyclists were not able to join.

After becoming tired of this course, they decided to hold a few races at Outer Harbor, as it was still quite a remote area within Adelaide, and they used the 5km Outer Harbor-Osborne circuit.  Clubrooms (tents) were erected each Sunday  morning next to the Outer Harbor railway station.  Scratch races were limited to 30kms, with only 3 Grades (A, B and C).

Two to three months later, clubroom facilities became available at the Seaman's Headquarters at Outer Harbor, at which time the Veteran & Ladies Cycling Club (Outer Harbor), was formed, and the Club used these clubrooms until the mid 1990's when they were forced to find new premises, and subsequently moved to Osborne House for a short time, before being moved to the gymnasium on the same grounds.

In late 2011, the Club's gymnasium was demolished, and the Club once again moved it's headquarters - this time to the Le Fevre Community Stadium.

As membership continued to grow, members who lived in the southern vales, recommended the formation of another Club down south.  As a result of this, the SA Veteran Cycling Association was disbanded, and the Veteran & Ladies Cycling Club and the Southern Districts - Veteran & Ladies Cycling Club were formed.

In 1984, in line with the relaxation of Olympic rules between professionals and amateurs, amateurs were now allowed to gain membership of the VLCC.  Leen Nieuwenhoven, was the first amateur to join the VLCC in 1984.

Since then, the Club has continued to grow, and now has in excess of 300 members, numerous hard working volunteers and officials.
